Sherry Dang, also known as MyPhuong Duong, was born in Vietnam in 1961. Her childhood was forever changed after the fall of Saigon in 1975, when her father was sent to a reeducation camp, leaving her mother to care for seven children without a home.
In 1980, Sherry made the perilous journey to freedom as one of the Vietnamese boat refugees. She arrived in San Francisco in 1981, carrying little more than hope for a new beginning.
Over the years, she made her home in San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Cruz before settling in Watsonville in 1989. Since then, Watsonville has become her hometown, California her world, and America the safe haven she has cherished since the day she first stepped onto U.S. soil—a place she will always call home.
